When Boundaries Betray Us
Published in Paperback by Pilgrim Pr (05 July, 2000)
Authors: Carter Heyward and Roy Herndon Steinhoffsmith
Average review score:

A Challenge to Professional Ethics
Heyward writes from her personal experience of a therapeutic realtionship that has gone bad and her struggle to reconcile herself and her feminist ideals with this experience. Her conclusions challenge the assumptions on which current professional ethical standards are based. She calls us to re-think the balance of power in therapeutic relationships and seek new ways to relate in feminist models of power and relationships. Mental health professionals will find her analysis disturbing as it shakes the foundations of our ethical codes. However, Heyward's analysis is an essential voice to be heard if feminist therapists truly seek to remove the patriarchal assumptions from our professional practice.

A brilliant work & embarrassing to psychotherapy profession!
I found this book to be an excellent study as to how badly a psychotherapist can damage a clients emotional and psychological health, and then blame or discredit the client for bringing on that damage, instead of taking responsibility for harming the client. This is called counter-transference in the profession.

I can also fully understand why many psychotherapists including social workers and psychologists would hate this book; many therapists do not like to take responsibility for counter transference, which is basically hate or abuse directed towards clients. It does not portray the profession in a good light. It does, however, bring out many unfortunate truths inherent within the psychotherapy industry, and also is a premier as to what kind of psychotherapists to avoid. It get's five stars from me!

Revolutionary
Carter writes personally of her own experience in therapy, and the problems within it as a woman, lesbian, and person. Her therapy crashes, not because it failed AS A WHOLE, but because of the problems of the therapeutic model-i.e. Therapist as an authority. It is brilliant, as Carter challenges this model, which is rigid and, unfortunately, centuries old, and presses against fine boundaries which pretend to protect us but actually serve to subtley harm us. She is very sensitive, and anyone who would have strong feelings against this book either doesn't understand or has never felt the kind of passion for someone that Carter writes of. A brilliant book.

Army Air Forces in World War 2 Combat Chronology 1941-1945
Published in Hardcover by Ayer Co Pub (December, 1979)
Author: Kit C. Carter
Average review score:

The Army Air Forces in World War II Combat Chronology
If you have any sort of interest in the Army Air Forces of WW II, this is a must have reference book. Broken down by Numbered Air Forces (8Th, 9Th etc) and international air forces it is a day by day listing of missions flown. Each listing is written in military format, but each contains a wealth of information, such as number of aircraft, target information, figher support etc.

A dry work, but a useful one
This is the kind of book that everybody says someone should write, but which nobody ever does. Usually.

It is invaluable to anyone seeking to research the Air part of World War II. Containing facts, figures and reports the data is provided in an unbiased and factual format almost completely alien to the genre. You will find no boasting here, nor any misguided attempts to draw conclusions - simply a full and complete chronology of World War II from the point of view of the American Airforce.

Again, you will find little specific data regarding individual actions or campaigns, but this work will allow you to set any one piece of the war into its perspective, against the detailed backdrop of the "big picture". It is the only work of its kind that I have found and I heartily recommend it.

Black Fox Running
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (June, 1982)
Author: Brian Carter
Average review score:

The descriptions are good . . .

This book is ok. I bought it used, for £1, when I was living in England. The descriptions of Dartmoor are very realistic and true, but the story is weak. I saw the end before I was thirty pages into the book. The human characters are also weak. All in all, Black Fox Running is a pretty good book, but lacks an original plot.

Simply a Classic
I will not try to dazzle anyone with radiant descriptions of this work; I will instead state my humble opinion as a well-read member of society. This is a marvelous story that can be enjoyed by adults as well as children. It is, simply, one of the Forgotten Works. It marvelously portrays a fantastical animal society and its interaction with humankind. It is a beautiful tale akin to Watership Down. Do not pass this one up!

Born to Believe
Published in Paperback by Full Wits Publishing Inc. (10 May, 2000)
Authors: Butch Carter and Cris Carter
Average review score:

Born to Believe
I've read Cris' half of the book, and I think his story has something to offer young people who need a little inspiration to get them on the right track. Great for high school coaches and teachers to have on hand to offer students who want to read something they can relate to.

Born to Believe
Born to Believe is an inspirational feel good book. It contains some extremely insightful recounts of the brothers road to success. It inspires the reader with the will to overcome adversity. I loved the book and would highly recommend it to anyone who has a desire for self improvement. Both brothers are candid in their remarks on their own trials and tribulations which allow the reader to feel it is okay to make mistakes as long as you have the will to go on. This book is also excellent in the fact that it appeals to a broad range of readers (for example sports, self help, motivational etc). An excellent read!!

Carter Carburetors
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks Intl (Short Disc) (December, 1983)
Author: Dave Emanuel
Average review score:

Excellent Information
This book has helped tremendously with my Carter 9605 carburetor. I had minimal understanding of carburetor function before reading this book, and now I have a solid understanding of carburetion in general and an even more detailed understanding of Carter carburetors. Everyone knows Holleys, but few know Carters and Edelbrock Performers (which are just dressed up Carter AFB's). They're not as complex as most are led to believe. The only downside is that the chapters aren't clearly titled. Chapter 6 "Carburetor Tuning" isn't at all carburetor related, although the information is still good. It gives tips on other components of the car. For carburetor tuning procedures you have to look under Chapter 5 "Modifications". Otherwise it's a great book.

Very good info on most Carter Carburetors.
A Complete Quide of all the Carter Thermo-Quad, AFB, AVS & WCFB models. Great tips on proper selection and installation as well as modifications for performance and rebuilding. A MUST have for all Cater carb owners.

City of the Spider Queen (Forgotten Realms Game Adventure)
Published in Paperback by Wizards of the Coast (September, 2002)
Authors: Michele Carter, Gwendolyn F. M. Kestrel, and James Wyatt
Average review score:

Nasty Nasty Drow
It's a good epic adventure designed to take the characters from 10-18th level. It does that remarkably well because the monsters and villans are smartly designed and planned and the book is well laid out with clear maps and excellent descriptions.

Still there are a few problems.
1). Some of the monsters are tougher than their challenge rating suggests. Drider Vampires are a good example.
2). Any party without a rogue and a cleric are in for a rough time. This might seem self-evident, but not every party has one.
3). There isn't much downtime. The author makes this a clear point, but characters with item creation feats might as well have spent them in skill focus profession bum. 8 levels is a long time to go without creating any items.

Better than the Temple of Elemental Evil.
My players aren't even through the first part yet, but this is already the best ready-to-go game I've ever played. My party consists of an Aasimar Paladin and a NG Dwarven Cleric, so they enjoy the extreme smite-factor.

Complete Baseball Record Book - 2000 Edition
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Distributed Products (01 January, 2000)
Authors: Craig Carter and Sporting News
Average review score:

A very good buy
There is plenty of information in this book for all baseball fans. It has sections on Service, Batting, Baserunning, Pitching, Fielding, Miscellaneous....in just the Regular Season section alone. Additional sections are Division Series, Championship Series, World Series, All Star Game. The book has lifetime records of the top significant events, ie, GP, BA, 20yr player and pitcher, >.300, .>300 10 times or more, SLG, AB, R, H, Dbl, Trpl, HR, PHR, Grand Slams, and on and on..... It also has team information, club records and individual records per team, back to the year, naught. There is a LOT of information in this book. I have carried this book with me everywhere for the past 2 weeks, and everybody I know who likes baseball has sat for at lease 20 minutes with the book. It is 566 pages and well worth the money.

This book is very addictive
I've bought copies of this book since SN starting putting it out a few years ago. It is a treasure trove of arcane facts that only a true baseball lover could enjoy. Where else can you find out who has stolen the most bases in a game for the Arizona D-Backs or who looks good on the Red Sox this year. If you like baseball you will love this book.

Windows Nt Workstation 4.0 McSe Study Guide
Published in Hardcover by Hungry Minds, Inc (September, 1998)
Author: Alan R. Carter
Average review score:

Focuses on what you need to know for the exam
I used the book to study for the Workstation exam and it help me pass it. Very straightforward and focuses on the material for the exam. However do not use it as your only source of study. Combine with other books such as the Windows NT Workstation Resource Kit so you can cover the details.

A simple and easy to understand book for MCSE preparation
I am in the process of studying for the MCSE exams, I passed one - Workstation NT. This was the first book I read, I also read the Microsoft Technical Support Guide. The difference is that the Carter book has an 'author' and he builds a relationship with the reader which enables you to better understand the material. At times he seems a little bit too simplistic, however this is indicative of Carter's straightforward style.

Also the book is a bit repetitive in places, yet I passed the exam (workstation) successfully and the key concepts mapped out in this text have given me a sound basis for future study. The hands on workshops are also essential in reinforcing the theory.

I would recommend this text and a software test such as selftest.com questions. Inevitably as your knowledge expands you will need to get hands on experience (do the workshops), and test experience with a program that simulates the real test.

This is a very well written book which demonstrates the 'insider' knowledge that Carter brings to the text. He seems to understand the learning process a lot better than the Microsoft text, also he isn't afraid to teach to pass the exam as inevitably exams test how well you are at passing exams.

This book addresses both these issues well (passing the exam & understanding key NT WKS concepts). Happy studying :-)

Easy and Enjoyable. A real good book to read for beginners
This book has all you need to pass the workstation exam. It is easy to understand if you are not that familiar with Nt4.0. The Author really knows what he is talking about because I passed with 933/1000. Add Exam Cram and Transcenders and you have a winning combination.

X Marks the Spot
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Les Martin and Chris Carter
Average review score:

Just the same as the episode.
This novel adapts The X-Files pilot episode. Dana Scully has been assigned to the X-Files with the main aim to debunk them, but is quickly drawn into Fox Mulder's world of conspiracy and alien abductions. They're investigating a town where kids from the class of '89 are all being found dead with 2 identical scars on their bodies. As the book is only an adaptation from the series is doesn't really shed much light on the characters - it's pretty much what you see in the episode on tv is what you'll find here. Still it is good if you dont have access to the show for reminiscent purposes only.

A strange begining!
When F.B.I. agent Dana Scully is first meets Angent Fox Mulder she is confounded."..like putting together 2 pieces in a puzzle that don't fit.." He is deffinatly the ruddest man that she has ever met! Together they investigate the strange disippearance of one high school class. Each victim has strange red welts on thier lower back. Agent Mulder thinks that the kids have been abducted by aliens, but his skeptical, brand new partner thinks that this is some kind of sick prank. Until, that is, she gets some red welts of her own......!

It sure is #1!
Still my favourite Xifiles book, #1 is full of excitment! Was it a human corpse that Scully dug up? Why are all the people who died in the graduating class of 1989? What are the two red dots on there backs? Was Mulder right, did time really lose three hours? What's the metal thing placed in the class of '89 students' teeth? All these questions, and more are hard too figure out when students in the graduating class of '89 are dieing. A little too hard...
